Deep in the heart of the Byzantine-Latino Quarter of Los Angeles (which ironically is close to Koreatown), is Papa Cristo’s, which is a combination Greek Grocery Store and Restaurant. I’ve gotten take out from there, and of course sampled their delightful Baklava.

Now, I haven’t tried the Restaurant yet, though its reputation is pretty damn good. I haven’t tried it because I keep hearing that the thing to do there, the thing to go to is what was once called the “Greek Feast” but is now the My “Big Fat Greek” Family Style Dinner. The only thing that’s changed is the name. It’s still on Thursday nights. It still is under twenty bucks, and it still starts with a Greek wine tasting.

The Belly dancers, though. They’re new.

WHAT SHOULD I GET?: Well, if you go for the Greek Feast, you’re gonna get what they’re gonna give ya. The big ticket items include: Lemon-Oregano Chicken and a Marinated Lamb Loin.

IMPORTANT SAFETY TIP, PEOPLE: Papa Cristo’s isn’t in the most savory of neighborhoods, so you may not feel the most comfortable leaving your car there.

PARKING: Papa Cristo’s has a nice little lot in back, and it fills up real fast on the Thursdays when the Greek Feast is happening. The Greek Feast used to start at 6pm, and by 6:05pm, I’d bet that those spaces are gone. The street is an option but it also fills up fast (if cars ever leave in the first place).
