Los Angeles’s best Cuban.

There’s nothing particularly magical about Versailles, except for the fact that its the best Cuban Restaurant in Los Angeles. It serves up the Cuban classics, and does it Old School. It is positively old-school. There’s almost nothing else to say about it except to get into what to order.

WHAT SHOULD I GET: There is so much that is good here, so feel free to circle back and try new things. If you want to know what made Versailles famous, try the #6, the Garlic Roasted Chicken. I also have a soft spot in my heart for #9, Arroz Con Pollo (Chicken and Yellow Rice). Mind the bones. But my heart really belongs to the Ropa Vieja, which translates to “Old Clothes” because of the way the shredded beef looks after its been stewing in the peppers and tomatoes and onions, and…okay I need to stop writing this and get to Versailles.

IMPORTANT SAFETY TIP, PEOPLE: There are no real tricks to the restraurant, but I would recommend taking a chance on one of the Cuban sodas that are available, particularly Materva, which can best be described as a pineapple soda. Figure if you’re going to surf Cuba, go the whole way.

PARKING: Well, it depends on the Location. Encino’s location is part of a very, very small strip mall, so they have their own lot…sorta. But it fills up fast. There is metered street parking along Ventura Blvd., and on some side streets. The Culver City location is the biggest one, and has its own lot. While far larger than Encino’s, it too fills up quckly. Street Parking can be a bit trickier there. I am not familiar with the La Cienega or Manhattan Beach locations, but driving past La Cienega, I can tell you it’s real small, and you might want to consider driving five more minutes to get yourself to Culver City.

Oh, that might count as a Safety Tip, wouldn’t it?
