French Bistro food in Pasadena.
Cafe Bizou is a nice little place, albeit a bit out of the way. Like Akbar Cuisine of India, it’s a block or two off Colorado, but nestled in its own little sub-neighborhood of Pasadena Dining spots in Old Town.
I probably like Cafe Beaujolais just a bit better, mostly because of the total French immersion of the place, right down to the Wait staff throwing orders back and forth in French, but Café Bizou is certainly no slouch. The food is pretty damn good, and its usually very crowded, which is always a good sign in this Blog’s opinion, so hit Open Table and make yourself some reservations.
WHAT SHOULD I GET?: I’ve had the Roast Pork Tenderloin, which wasn’t bad. I’ve also had the Chicken Balsamic, which was really nice. I’ve tried their Short Ribs, and I’ve resolved myself to the idea that they really, really need to be tried again. But I’ve also got to look at their Steak Frites. I’ve only had it at Morels…and I need to see how its really done.
IMPORTANT SAFETY TIP, PEOPLE: When the Heritage Wine Company was just down the street, Café Bizou, as well as a lot of other places on that block had veeeery reasonable Corkage fees. Now that its gone, I have no idea if they’re still in effect.
PARKING: At the Pasadena location, things are a bit easier. There is the Marriott Parking Structure just a block away from the Restaurant, but it’ll cost you. The cheaper alternative is the Schoolhouse Structure straight down Raymond. It’s about four blocks away, but since its City owned, is just a bit cheaper than the Marriott lot. If free is what you need, there’s always Street parking. You can try in and around Memorial Park just across the street from the Restaurant. Or anywhere down Raymond.
Cafe Bizou is one of the few Restaurant Websites to actually include parking tips on their Website. This is most welcome, and overdue by any other restaurant site that’s not doing this right now.
