A chain of Salad Bars scattered throughout SoCal.
Basically, it’s a massive Salad Bar, with every permutation of Salad, Salad Dressing or Salad fixings available you to pile on your plate. Goes without saying that it’s a very vegetarian friendly place, but if you do like meat you can pick your spots.
You walk in, grab your tray and plate, and get into one of two very long lines along the very lengthy and massive salad bar. From there, you load up. Once done with that, you pay (electing to get a drink cup at that spot…though the liquid itself is still a few feet away). After that, you sit and chow down. You’ll notice that as you go to your seat, you’ll pass by a very large soup station, with nicely prepared soups at the ready (some of them with meat and chicken), a dessert station, filled with healthy desserts like fruit and yogurt. You’ll even find a pizza station, but its basically Focaccia pizza with just a little sauce and cheese on bread.
WHAT SHOULD I GET: Uhhh, it’s Salad Bar. What do you think you’re going to get?
IMPORTANT SAFETY TIP, PEOPLE: Souplantation can be, at times, very crowded, especially on the weekends. High traffic days will require patience. Also, even after all the years I’ve been going there, I’m still not sure about policy about going back for more Salad. I think you can, but I’m not 100% sure. Still, by the time you pass the Soup, Pizza and, yes, Taco, stations, that should tempt you more than anything the Salad Bar has to offer.
PARKING: Whoa, Nelly. The Pasadena location is in a massive labyrinthine Office Complex, so the good news is there is always paid parking available. If you get in and out of the place with a validation fast enough, you should dodge having to pay anything. The problem is that its still a massive labyrinthine Office Complex, and parking too far away might get you a bit lost. The stairwell that leads you right to Souplantation also shared by a Gym, and all the Gymrats tend to eat up those spots. But wherever you park, if you follow the Gymrats, you should be okay to find the place.
The Howard Hughes Center location (Culver City) has its own Garage Complex. Odds are, you will pay to park there, but its easier to find the Souplantation. It’s all the way at the far end of the complex. Just walk up to the center of the Hughes Center. Hang a right, and keep walking until you see the Souplantation.
