Baklava Factory, The

Middle Eastern Desserts in the Valley.

Living in Glendale, among the massive Armenian population (seriously, Glendale has the largest population of Armenians in the world…even larger than Armenia), you get curious about these new (to you) foodways. Fortunately, there are many, many primo examples of places to try, like Skaf’s Lebanese, Raffi’s Place (a Persian place serving an Armenian clientele) and the ever famous Zankou Chicken.

But to get to know the totality of these food ways, you gotta try the Baklava Factory. It’s almost a Coffee shop from the looks of it, but walk in just a step further, and you will see an explosion of Middle Eastern desserts…and that is a good thing.

Now, Baklava is basically layers upon layers of thin, delicate pastry, chopped nuts, and meshed with honey. You amazingly don’t feel that guilty having eaten it, given the natural, fresh off the tree ingredients (though you probably should).

They also sell gifts, little packages of sweets and the like, and coffee. But step inside, check it out. It’s worth it.

WHAT SHOULD I GET?: Seriously?

IMPORTANT SAFETY TIP, PEOPLE: As much as I love the Baklava Factory, as much as I recommend shopping there, and eating their wares…their online component sucks, just flat out sucks. They will screw up your order, and it won’t be pretty. They’ve since switched to a new service to handle things, but…just to be safe, go into the store.

PARKING: I’ve only been to the Glendale-Colorado location. The Baklava Factory is part of a small strip mall, so it has its own free lot. Because of its proximity to Zankou Chicken, the lot is always crowded, though there is an underground portion.  Expect the other locations to be similarly situated.
