First Class Louisiana Creole/Cajun Cuisine right in the heart of the Farmer’s Market.

Gumbo Pot (W3rd/Fairfax) on Urbanspoon

I’ve tried a lot of New Orleans/Louisiana places here in Los Angeles. They all do different things, different ways. But this place may be the best, because it’s not just giving you the food, it’s giving you a cut the real New Orleans attitude mixed in there. They’re not going to dial the spicy down for you. It’s here, it’s got a punch and you’re just going to have to deal with it. They’re not going to slow down for you. They want you to come up, get your food, and go on and sit there.

This is not a sit down place. Yes, it is cafeteria style…but hell, you knew that. You’re in the freakin’ Farmer’s Market, for pity’s sake. What were you expecting? Magianno’s of Italy? That’s somewhere else. I’m sure they’d love to see you, but come here, you’re coming for their Jambalaya, you’re coming for their Gumbo, and if you have a minute, and you’re looking for a damn good dessert at a damn good price, you’re coming for their beignets.

WHAT SHOULD I GET?: Well, you’re finishing with the Beignets. But before that, I’m getting the very good, very spicy Traditional Recipe Jambalaya. Oh my God good, and oh my God HOT.

But good, we’re emphasizing the good here.

IMPORTANT SAFETY TIP, PEOPLE: Again, you are in the Farmer’s Market, and it is a maze back there. The Gumbo Pot is toward the back of the Farmer’s Market. You’re going to get lost. You’re going to wander past some perfectly acceptable (and not so acceptable) food options. Ignore them. Keep pushing on. If you get near the big Nuts and Candy stall at the center, you’re close. If you get near the Hot Sauce Store, you’re close. Just ask somebody. Get there.

PARKING: Well, this is the Farmer’s Market, so you’re Parking at the Grove’s Massive and well-organized Parking Structure. It’ll cost you a bit, but worth it, just to avoid the trouble of finding a spot in the Farmer’s Market itself.  You could consult the Farmer’s Market’s own website and guide before going.
