A pretty nice Crepe chain in Pasadena, and various locations throughout SoCal.
I really should learn more about Crepes, especially given that I’m an American and all. I mean, to us, they look like simple buckwheat pancakes. Our temptation is to slather them with butter and syrup and call it a breakfast.
But the French do so much more with them. They can be had with Lunch. They can be had with Dinner. There are all kinds of meats and cheeses with them, and they are invariably delicious.
I’m still not the one you should turn to for Crepe expertise, but if you want to dip your toe into this particular Gallic delight, maybe you want to try Crème de la Crepe. Better to come here than to any Crepe stand in a mall. (C’mon, I’ve taught you better than that).
Granted, I can’t guarantee Crème de la Crepe’s product as the best in town, but what I had did not suck, not at all. They had a nice variety to choose from, and a reasonably comfortable place to have them in.
The live music they had that night, I could’ve done without.
WHAT SHOULD I GET?: Seriously? Are you going to make me say it?
I remember having the Vendome Crepes, which is Chicken breast, bacon and a black pepper sauce. Very nice. My date at the time had the Filet Mignon, with blue cheese and a mushroom sauce. Both very nice.
IMPORTANT SAFETY TIP, PEOPLE: This was hyper irritating. But the Crème de la Crepe location in Pasadena…has…no…bathroom. Nope, you have to go into the office complex next door in order to use the John. Not good. Not cool…at all.
Also, side note. Crème de la Crepe’s roots seem to be more in Brittany than in France. Their homepage will tell you more.
PARKING: Well, I went to the one in Old Town Pasadena, and Crème De La Crepe is sandwiched in between both the Schoolhouse Parking Structure and the DeLancey Parking Structure. Consult the Pasadena Parking Map for more options.
