Is It Any Good?

A soon-to-be, one-of-these-days, great destination for Dining and Hanging out in Santa Monica.

Man, I almost don’t want to write this review. I mean, its like judging a painting when its in the sketch stage…or a movie from the dailies…or a Baseball after a split squad Spring Training g–…

you get the idea.

The Market at Santa Monica Place is hard to judge because its not finished yet. It’s basically part of  Santa Monica Place’s Dining Deck, but…not.  It’s an indoor eatery-slash-marketplace that will eventually have themselves a mess of small stores, speciality eats, bars, wine, wine shops, etc. Once finished, it’s going to be the number one eating option at Santa Monica Place.

Once it’s finished…

Thing of it is, there are about a dozen stalls in the Marketplace, but only half of them are up and running. There is a nice little Ice Cream stand (that’s where I stopped), a Wine and Cookbook Store, even a Cooking School. So, there’s plenty of space to sit and cool off, particuarlly in the summer. There are restrooms (in between the Ice Cream place and the Cooking School). There is a space set up for a Bar and Grill, but I can’t tell if its a place yet to open or a place that’s recently closed.

Point is, this place’ll be a damn good place…once it’s finished.

IMPORTANT SAFETY TIP, PEOPLE: Come back in a couple of months, and see if I’ve updated this sucker.

PARKING: Consult our Santa Monica Walking Map, but your best bet is going to be the Santa Monica Place Parking Garage.  Now, it ain’t free…it sure ain’t cheap, and worst of all…it gets and stays crowded.  It’s also belies its size.  No, really…it’s nowhere near as big as it looks inside.  There are other options scattered around 3rd Street.  They’ll cost you also, and will require some shoe leather to get you to the Marketplace.
