Vu in the Jamaica Bay Inn is special. Some of the notables have been showing a bit of age, and the rest of the marina food scene is for the most part, any of a number of chain restaurants and bars. Vu brings southern to the 21 century. Their chef is clearly influenced by what Jose Andres, a chef from Spain.
The Pork Belly with Root Beer Jelly on Crispy Grits with my glass of Syrah was a clean sublime taste. Trout with Blackberry & Brown Butter was the only entree I had. The flavors playing off the tongue were a delight. Pretty much all I ordered was small plates or tapas style. Chicken-fried Watermelon and Calamari with Pink Lemonade Mayo were winning and unlikely dishes. The Balsamic-injected Cherry Tomatoes with Basil-infused Mozzarella, and Hawaiian Sea Salt & Basil was a tastier version than what I had at The Bazaar. Next time have to try the Buttermilk Panna Cotta of Liquid Nitrogen Coke and Carbonated Blackberries.
Service was southern friendly. The wait staff knew their stuff and a visit by the chef totally impressed. Will be back.
