Is It Any Good?

A slice of the Gallic good stuff right in the heart of…Eagle Rock?

The charm of this French Restaurant is its good, solid French cooking, and the fact that it’s in the heart of freakin’ Eagle Rock. I mean, c’mon…who saw that coming?  It’s a neighborhood joint that’s trying to…you know…actually serve the neighborhood, not draw in every Foodie from here to Orange County. Apparently their motto is “Everything French, but the Attitude”. They’re clearly proud of what they do…not that they give two whiffs of what you think.

The staff is crewed with French speakers. Their bantering back and forth in the mother tongue as they serve you adds to the atmosphere. Occasionally, rarely, you might get a little, a microscopic portion of the attitude, but the food makes up for it.  This is a place that is always crowded on Weekends, and the Staff wants to make sure you enjoy what your meal.

WHAT SHOULD I GET: The menu is small, but…that’s a good thing, because it seems like they know what they’re good at. Their Specials are usually spot on, but I’ve had the Filet Mignon there, which was fantastic. But every visit has come with the French Onion Soup. I don’t know if it’s a “touristy” thing to do, but its such a simple good thing, and Café Beaujolais does it well.

IMPORTANT SAFETY TIP, PEOPLE: You’re not seeing things. There is no website.  I can’t tell if that’s a good or a bad thing.  Maybe they just decided that, like I said, they are who they are.  They’re going to let word of mouth spread the old fashioned way, and the right people would find their way there.  Looks like its working, so who am I to complain?

PARKING: Difficult, but not impossible…particularly late on Sundays. There is a tiny lot for a Doctor’s Office behind the Restaurant that holds 5-6 cars. As long as it’s late on the Weekend, when the Doctor’s Office is closed, you should be alright. Otherwise, you’re going to be parking on the street. Colorado might be hard, so try La Roda and Mt. Royal on either side of the block.
