An Italian Restaurant in the heart of Pasadena.
Il Fornaio is possibly the most flavorless restaurant I’ve ever set foot into.
Now, this may not be entirely fair. When I was last in there, there was a problem with tomatoes in Southern California, and a lot of them had to be trashed because of Salmonella. So the bad dish of pasta I got may not have been the Chef’s fault.
By bad, remember what I mean. I don’t mean bad tasting, just…bland.
Still, I felt it important to…well, advise you about this place. Tomato problem or no, I can’t believe the chef couldn’t whip up anything that…dull. Il Fornaio has got the best bit of prime real estate inside One Colorado in Pasadena. It’s a huge place, filled up every night, and filling bellies with…I hate to say it…some of the most bland Italian food I’ve ever had.
Please, even Bucca di Beppo before this.
WHAT SHOULD I GET?: I had the Capellini al Pomodoro, which may have been a mistake. Angel hair pasta, chopped tomatoes, garlic, marinara sauce and fresh basil. Maybe it was the timing, but this really did not work.
IMPORTANT SAFETY TIP, PEOPLE: Well, this explains a lot, it’s part of a large semi-Californian chain. No wonder it’s hanging on.
PARKING: Consult the Pasadena Parking Map, but really…why?
