Is It Any Good?

If the Landmark just isn’t big, expensive or enough for you…

One might think twice before plopping down near ’round 30 bucks for a movie ticket. (Thirty bucks before you start drinking and eating). But the iPic Theaters might be worth it at least once, if for no other reason there isn’t anything like it…anywhere.

Except for Austin, Redmond, Scottsdale and a bunch of other cities.

iPic Theaters used to be called the Gold Class Cinemas, and from what I can tell the experience is pretty much the same. You get your tickets, and go down into the heart of the complex, the bar area. You sit for a spell, get your drink on, or your grub on, and then go into the Theater itself for your movie, and of course to cotinue to get your grub and drink on.

The really special part of the Theater are the orange barco-loungers that serve as your seats. They are truly comfortabe, so comfortable in fact, that you might nod off in inthe middle of your movie. (And yes, I this happened to me in the middle of The Wolfman).

I cannot recommend this place for regular movie going, because it’s just too dang expensive. I also cannot recommend this place for a night out with the boys (or girls), given that it’s really set up for date-night moviegoing. But it’s definitely worth a shot every one in a while.

IMPORTANT SAFETY TIP, PEOPLE: Like I said, this place is expensive. But believe it or not, I’m going to officially recommend you go see…how should I put this?…crappier movies at this theater.

Here’s why. A good movie is a good movie. You’re going to enjoy yourself even if you watch it in a broom closet. But go see a marginal movie here, and…well, even if the movie sucks, you still wind up having a good time. Granted you spend an arm and a leg to do it, but it salves the pain.

WHAT SHOULD I GET?: Well, I’m not sure about the new Kitchen, but keep in mind your environs. You’re going to be in a dark theater, and despite the provided lighting, its still a little hard to eat in there. The menu is bar/finger food, but try to order on the easier to handle, less messy side of the menu.

PARKING: Plenty of choices. Consult our Pasadena Parking Map before you go. You’re going to see that there’s a Public Parking location close by on Union and North Fair Oaks. But I’m still a fan of the Schoolhouse between Fair Oaks, Green and Raymond.
