Joy Feast

A Chinese restaurant-chain based out of Burbank and Encino.
The big problem with having been brought up on Chinese food (and I mean real Chinese food) is that you can smell a faker.
Literally. The first thing I better smell is the very distinct smell of Sesame Oil coming from the back. When you do, it’s a statement, it’s a pronouncement of this is who we are, this is who we expect you to be, so deal. When I don’t smell that smell, when they vent it off somewhere else, I just want to turn around and call it a day.
Which brings us to Joy Feast, a palace of average Chinese food.
Look, I’m coming across more insulting than I mean to be. It’s not like you’re going to have a terrible meal at Joy Feast. It’s not like the Waitstaff and the Chefs don’t care, and that just any old slop will be shovled in front of you.
But you’ve had better. If you’ve been to Monterey Park or San Gabriel, you’ve definitely had better. This is not a place that is maintaining an almost-exclusively Chinese clientele. It’s serving the people of…well, Burbank. If you want good Chinese Food, Joy Feast will do, but Gourmet 88 and/or P.F. Chang’s might do you a bit better.
WHAT SHOULD I GET?: Really? You’re still coming? Okay.
Wow…what an amazingly…average collection of dishes. (Don’t think I didn’t see how many Thai dishes you snuck onto the menu there, Joy Feast!).
Cream Cheese Wontons?? Doesn’t Panda Express serve those
Sigh. Get the Pan Fried Noodles. Not enough places serve Pan Fried Noodles.
IMPORTANT SAFETY TIP, PEOPLE: It’s in an out of the way part of Burbank. It’s close to Disney, so…there’s that. It’s close to the Burbank Dialysis Center, which leads us to…
PARKING: Yeah, for the Burbank location it’s all Street Parking. You can park along Alameda or S. Keystone or Lamer. Realistically, it’s about Disney Employees parking their cars on the lot and walking.
