Umami Burger (aka Umami Urban)

Another chain of first class Burger Joints in Hollywood, and elsewhere.
This is the other high-end comfort-food, first-class burger joint in Hollywood, outside of Go Burger.
The feel of this place is far different. There’s none of the Sports Bar techno hipness of Go Burger (which, I frankly don’t mind in Go Burger’s case). Going into Umami Burger, after weaving your way through Space Twenty, where it’s housed, is almost like being given the password to an exclusive little café that no one but the cool kids are supposed to know about.
But seriously folks, that was just a feeling. They want your business. Heck, they expect me to come back.
It was packed the night I went in there, so me and a bud wound up sitting on the sofa, which wasn’t bad. I think the Waitress we had felt a little bad for us, so I felt well taken care of.
If you’re looking for Umami Burger in Hollywood, you gotta look in here.
The trick of Umami Burger is the quality of the meat, as well as the preparation. They also are into this thing about “the fifth taste” which is what Umami actually is. (Heck, I thought it was a type of Japanese beef. What do I know?)
In the end, when they sit you down, you’re going to be served an extraordinary premium burger, which you will pay a premium price for. But its worth it.
In the end, as to the choice between Go Burger an Umami? They’re not that far from each other. So I encourage doing your own research them…multiple times. You know, just to get what’s your favorite straight in your head.
WHAT SHOULD I GET?: Not to brag or anything, but I got myself a “Manly Burger”.
Yeah, I know…but when you read the list of ingredients on it: Beer-Cheddar Cheese, Smoked-Salt Onion Strings, Bacon Lardons. I’m not even sure what Bacon Lardons are, but they ware fanastic.
PARKING: About the same as places like Off-Vine, Magnolia and Go Burger. It’s not ideal, but you can get in there. Odds are, you’ll be parking at the Arclight Hollywood and walking across the street to Space 15 Twenty. Parking at the Sunset Vine Office Complex is a little out of the way (shared by Off-Vine, Magnolia and Go Burger), but just adds a block to your walk. Don’t be a wiseass and park at the Jack-In-The-Box. That’s just asking for trouble.
IMPORTANT SAFETY TIP, PEOPLE: Go Burger and Umami Burger are only similar in that they serve high-end, high quality Burgers. But the similarities stop there, as they serve very different audiences. If you’re on a date, I’d probably suggest going to Umami Burger. It’s quieter, low-key cafe setting makes it ideal for a date. The loudest thing in there is the other patrons enjoying their meals. If you’re out with the boys, or want to hang and watch the game for a minute or two, go to Go Burger, despite their recent menu upgrade.
