The best Ice Cream in Los Angeles, at the Farmer’s Market.
When you go to Bennett’s you feel like you’re in the absolute oldest part of the Farmer’s Market.
It’s in a bit of a kitty corner with Bryan’s Pit Barbecue, and a Pizza Place, and Bob’s Coffee and Donuts.
Look at the image. The sign looks as though it’s been up for a hundred years. The very design pallet looks like something pulled from the Eisenhower era.
But man, that Ice Cream.
WHAT SHOULD I GET?: Well, the Ice Cream, sure. (Who would’ve guessed, right?)
Specifically I rolled with the Salted Caramel, and that magic splash of flavors is all in there. Plus, you can tell just how hand made their Ice Cream is, because you see streaks of caramel cutting through your cone or cup (I had a cup).
IMPORTANT SAFETY TIP, PEOPLE: This is a cash only establishment, which could also explain why they’ve managed to hang on for so long.
Also, just to be clear, this is not cheap Ice Cream. No, you’re not going to go broke getting a scoop, but it is more expensive than the scoops you may be used to. Instead of paying two or three bucks for a scoop, you may be paying four or five. The difference in taste is more than worth it.
Also, gotta say…that Urbanspoon score…shameful. Shameful! It should be much, much higher than that. But reading one of the user comments on the Urbanspoon page suggests a reason why. Let’s just say, I hope that rudeness isn’t standard feature of all Bennett’s transactions.
PARKING: Well, this is Farmer’s Market, and like all things Farmer’s Market or the Grove, you’re gonna have to deal with that magical line that exists along Caruso Ave.
