Yet another tasty Indian Buffet (in a great space) in Glendale.
Wow, these are becoming almost common. Indian Restaurant by day, Indian Buffet by…afternoon?
In this case, common is a good thing. Maybe we should all be having lunches that are packed full of flavorful condiments, using slightly less meat and more vegetables.
I can’t even tell you the story behind India’s Flavor, except that it clearly doubles as a nightclub. You enter from the street, directly across from the Americana Center, and go down a set of steps. It almost reminded me of New York in that way. Its cool and quiet down there, except for the diners working their way down the buffet line. To your left is a big screen projection system showing an old Indian classic, sound muted and subtitled in english for at least my convenience.
Now, I will say that it looked like the Manager or the Family who owns India Flavor were Sikhs. Every time I encounter just a bit more variety in our American landscape, it’s always a good thing. As I’ve said in other postings of other Indian Restaurants, I don’t know enough about Indian cuisine. I know, at best, the basics. I know a few of the dishes. I want to know more the regions. What’s the difference between cooking in Kerala and Kolkata. Is there even a difference between cooking styles if you’re a Hindu or a Sikh? I’d like to know because I thought the food at India’s Flavor was a bit different from other Indian places I’ve gone to. The flavors were a bit sweeter. They were every bit as strong, but…
Heck, it’s a small difference, but one that requires illumination.
But at the end of the day, what more could you want? Nice space. Nice food. Comfortable. I can really see coming down here on a Summer’s day for a good lunch.
WHAT SHOULD I GET?: Well, if you’re coming here for Lunch, you’re getting the Buffet…with the largest…Samosas…I have ever seen. Their version of the Chicken Tikka Masala taste a bit sweeter as I mentioned before, with more of a…tomato taste than I’ve encountered before. It actually was great. I enjoyed what I had. Also, it has the best Naan Bread I’ve eaten since going to Akbar in Pasadena.
IMPORTANT SAFETY TIP, PEOPLE: Nothing major. If it’s hard to find at all, it’s because it’s down underground. Don’t be surprised if you limit yourself to just two go-throughs at the Buffet, and…well…that’s about it.
PARKING: Well, it all depends on where you want to end up. You can consult our Glendale Parking Map for tips. You can try the Glendale Marketplace, which is on the same block. You can park at the Americana Center directly across the street. Both are gonna cost a little somethin’. Worst case? Two bucks? You might be able to blindly find street parking, but…it’s kinda like the Blind Squirrel story. Every once in a while at best.
