The Bar at the Chateau Marmont Hotel. And yes, you will feel cooler just for going there.
There is just something terribly, terribly cool about walking into the bar of the Chateau Marmont Hotel. Hell, I felt more rock and roll just walking in there.
Of course, I’m not terribly rock and roll to begin with…so…there’s that.
It’s kinda dark and kooky, like the Hotel itself. There are black butterflies tacked to the ceiling. At least I think they were black. Light was kinda low in there, which was the point. Besides, I was enjoying my drink. Looking up at the ceiling should only happen at the end of an overly successful evening at Bar Marmont.
Long and the short of it is, it’s a nice place to stop and have a drink. It’s a place you should stop by and have a drink, because…well…its the freakin’ Chateau Marmont, they don’t screw around hiring half-assed Bartenders. You’ll get what you want and have a good time doing it. What more can I say?
WHAT SHOULD I GET?: Needless to say, you should step up the bar and have a drink. No one’s going to look at you funny if you just have a beer or a glass of wine. Still, this is one of the better bars in Los Angeles, so usually they get top flight mixologists to work here. It’d be a shame if you didn’t take advantage of their skills while you were here.
PARKING: Well, not exactly obvious. If you’re not staying or dining at the Hotel, you gotta go elsewhere. I would not recommend the Strip Mall across the street, as I’m sure they’re well used to interlopers snatching quick, easy, and free (if they don’t get caught) parking slots. I was down at the Lamelle Sunset 5 Cinemas, and it was only a block and a half walk to slip into the bar before the movie started.
