The Bibimbap Backpackers, are a group, according to their Facebook Page, traveling the world for the purpose of promoting the excellence of Bibimbap to the world.

A worthy goal.  Did not know you could make money doing that…but hey, if it gets me fed, more power to them.

Now, what is Bibimbap, which is something I’ve had? Going by Wikipedia’s definition:

Bibimbap is a signature Korean dish. The word literally means “mixed rice”. Bibimbap is served as a bowl of warm white rice topped with namul (sautéed and seasoned vegetables) and gochujang (chili pepper paste). A raw or fried egg and sliced meat (usually beef) are common additions. The ingredients are stirred together thoroughly just before eating. It can be served either cold or hot.

Now the Bibimbap Backpackers will be having a Bibimbap tasting and cooking demonstration at the Korean Cultural Center along the Miracle Mile.

You have the opportunity to taste a lot of Korean food including, of course, Bibimbap, Japchae (vegetables with potato noodles), Mandu (Korean dumplings) and Hotteok (Korean sweet rice cake). There will also be a Photo exhibition of Bibimbap Backpackers’ activities for the last two years as well as a presentation on 15 minute presentation  on Bibimbap.

An RSVP is required, so let them know as soon as you can if you want to attend! It’s a free event, so bring as many friends as you like, just make sure you let them know how many people you’re bringing.

Again, the event is on June 28, 2013, 12pm, at the Korean Cultural Center.

The RSVP Phone Number is;
(917) 891-5705 or (917) 250-9199

And of course, you can like them on Facebook.
