How should a Texan, or someone Texas adjacent regard something like the Long Beach Barbecue Festival?

With a healthy mix of skepticism and anticipation.

Hey, it’s not gonna be all Texas style (the only style) of Barbecue, and I’m sure that they’ll allow…Carolina style or Kansas City Style Barbecue as well…for…some…reason.

Anyway, the put in the way their website puts it:

The Long Beach BBQ Festival to be held August 16-18, 2013, at the Rainbow Lagoon in Long Beach, California. You won’t want to miss this event.

The Long Beach BBQ Festival is the largest three day BBQ Extravaganza featuring the WORLD’S BEST BBQ Ribs, Pulled Pork, Tri-tip, Sausages, Chicken and more. The competition is fierce and the flavors rich as National Award Winning Rib Cookers of America and local grillers produce the best that their secret recipes have to offer.

Pork Ribs, Beef Ribs, Tri-Tip, Pulled Pork, Chicken, Sausages and more…

We combine local and nationally known bands, the BEST BBQ IN TOWN, giant food court (Chinese, Mexican, local eateries and American foods — something for everyone), dance floor, children’s area, arts and crafts, cantinas (serving water, beer, wine), to create the largest BBQ Extravaganza, right here in Southern California.

Seriously.  Should you  trust a Barbecue Festival with a Myspace page?

I’m being told we can.

And I’m being told to suck it up.

Anyway, here are the hours:

Friday, August 16th — 5 PM – 11 PM
Saturday, August 17th — 12 NOON – 11 PM
Sunday, August 18th — 12 NOON – 10 PM

Menu items range form $2 to $25. Maybe I’ll swing by and give it a dance.
