Is It Any Good?

A pretty good Wine Bar in Culver City.

Wine Bars aren’t really bars…at least not in the way you’re thinking.

You go into a good Wine Bar, or…any Wine Bar for that matter, and your immediate aim becomes to chill, to relax, to unwind. It also is more about tasting, savoring, enjoying. It’s not 180 degrees opposite of a regular ol’ Bar, but there doesn’t seem to be as much emphasis on sloshy drunkenness as usual.

So, realistically when you go into a place like Bottlerock, you’re really looking at three things. One, how good the wine is. Two, how comfortable the place is (so you can drink your wine in peace). Three, what kind of noshes do they serve with the wine you’re so comfortably having right now.

You walk in, and it’s got the lounge, black leather thing going on. Not bad. There’s a good chalkboard menu along the wall. We approve of restaurants with chalkboard menus.

Basically what they do here if someone wants a bottle cracked open for them, they give you a bit of a deal on the remainder (to get rid of it faster). Makes sense. You may not get the best deal on the exact vintage you want, but if you’re like me and just like wine for wine’s sake: it’s perfect.

WHAT SHOULD I GET?: Well, Wine for sure. How much of it is entirely up to you. The food is going to take a return visit, but anytime someone lists Pork & Duck Sausage, you know what I’m going to get.

My friend and part time Wine Editor finds the wine list here passable, so if you’re an up and up wine snob, this place may not be for you, but if you just want to hang with a glass, this place is great.

IMPORTANT SAFETY TIP, PEOPLE: Nothing really stands out. Takes cards and cash. Pretty easy to get into it. Comfortable. Yeah, you’re safe.

PARKING: Well, it’s Culver City, so…

There are a number of Parking Structure dotted around town. I got Street Parking in the block next to the grand Culver Hotel, but I was with a local who knew of such spots.

I gotta grade it as a bit tricky, but I don’t know the costs of the Culver Parking Structures yet. Will look for a map.
